The political education program is developed as Indonesia’s democratic system improves, and thereby opening up greater opportunities for women’s active political participation. Educating and building the awareness of Pekka communities to be actively engaged as citizens, including in general elections either as voters or candidates, is PEKKA’s area of focus. PEKKA cadres who have undergone training have went on to play important roles in the political system of their respective hometowns in terms of monitoring, participation and decision-making. In the last two general elections, many PEKKA cadres have run for legislative office.
